Looking Back

Being a teacher is one of the hardest and most rewarding jobs there is. That being said, you need to know that if you choose to teach you need a whole lot of patience, a terrific sense of humor, love and concern for children and the ability to take each day as it comes.

Now that I have been retired for the past 6 years I can look back and miss all those daily struggles to keep control of a class full of needy children. I taught Special Education for more years than I want to admit but I truly loved the challenge. You have to take each day as it some and laugh sometimes not only at the kids but yourself.

What a nice story.

Terra Simpson on January 21, 2014:

Seems how I take 4 group exercise classes a week. I'm always getting interesting subs every once in awhile. Anyways one of my teachers Jackie got diagnosed with cancer last year and is still doing radiation to this day. Anyways, I had this sub by the name of Curt from November through Febuary. He just taught one strength training classes that I attend and every week he'd explain the bench press and wear the bar was supposed to be every time it went up and down as " the bra line." The first time I heard that I just looked at him and he looked at me. I almost started laughing. One time as I was heading out of the building I went to pick my seat and heard laughter. So, I turned around and there he was right behind me. I almost died.

BK, it is an extremely rewarding and frustrating profession all rolled up in one. I love working with kids, I wish I had written down some of the funny things they do. That would be one fantastic hub. Thanks.

Holle Abee from Georgia on August 04, 2010:

As a retired teacher - these are awesome!

BkCreative from Brooklyn, New York City on August 03, 2010:

I like the one about reading and thanking a teacher until she gets an unlisted number. And I must say for all the years I've been a teacher - other than the years of genteel poverty I must say, the kids always made me laugh because children are just naturally darn hilarious.

It's a profession where you can lose your mind - and never have the time to know it. The only way to tell is if you start wearing the same clothes every day. Whew!

Wonderful hub! Thanks a million!

Susan Hazelton (author) from Northern New York on August 03, 2010:

Barbara from Stepping past clutter on August 02, 2010:

Perfect hub for today, as I am working out what exactly I think funny, lol. Out of the quotes above, I smiled at them all, but only one made me laugh and that is because it surprised me...

rebekahELLE, one of our classroom rules is: Keep you hands, feet and mouth to yourself. I have a self contained classroom, we have to be spacific about our rules. I with you there about writing down some of the funny things my students have said. If only they had been written down, what a book that would have made.
